Biology = 50% of NEET. Master It, Master NEET.
Biology carries 90 questions (360 marks) out of 720 in NEET. That's exactly half the paper. Students who score 340+ in Biology almost always qualify NEET.
I'm Nitish Sharma, Biology faculty at LakshyaMarch with AIR-82 in GATE-XL. In 5 years of teaching NEET Biology, I've developed a chapter-by-chapter strategy that has helped multiple students score 300+ in Biology alone.
Class 11 Biology — High Weightage Chapters
Must-master chapters (50% of Biology questions come from here):
1. Plant Kingdom — Classification, life cycles of Funaria, Selaginella 2. Animal Kingdom — Complete taxonomy with examples 3. Cell: The Unit of Life — Cell organelles, functions, diagrams 4. Cell Division — Mitosis, Meiosis in detail 5. Photosynthesis — Light and dark reactions, C3 vs C4 6. Plant Physiology — Transpiration, mineral nutrition, transport 7. Digestion & Absorption — Complete digestive system 8. Breathing & Exchange of Gases — Mechanism, disorders
Strategy: Read NCERT line-by-line. Make diagrams. Solve previous year questions after each chapter.
Class 12 Biology — Scoring Chapters
These chapters are asked every year without fail:
1. Reproduction in Organisms + Human Reproduction — 8-10 questions guaranteed 2. Genetics (Mendelian + Molecular) — 12-15 questions. Highest weightage. 3. Evolution — Easy chapter, 3-4 guaranteed questions 4. Human Health & Disease — Directly from NCERT 5. Biotechnology (Principles + Applications) — 5-6 questions 6. Ecology (Organisms, Ecosystem, Biodiversity) — 8-10 questions
Pro tip: Genetics alone carries 30-35 marks. If you master Mendel's laws, DNA replication, transcription, and translation — that's 35 marks locked.
Daily Biology Routine for NEET
Morning (1 hour): NCERT reading — 1 full chapter. Read it like a story. After coaching (1 hour): Solve 50 MCQs from the chapter covered in class. Evening (30 mins): Revision of diagrams and flowcharts. Before sleep (30 mins): Flashcard revision of key terms and definitions.
Weekly: One full Biology mock test (90 questions, 3 hours). Analyze every wrong answer.
This routine, followed consistently for 10 months, is enough to score 320+ in NEET Biology.
Common Mistakes in NEET Biology
1. Skipping NCERT examples and diagrams — 40% questions are from diagrams! 2. Ignoring Class 11 Biology — Students focus only on 12th. Fatal mistake. 3. Not solving previous years — NEET repeats question patterns. Solve last 15 years. 4. Over-relying on reference books — NCERT is sufficient for 95% of Biology. 5. Not making notes — Handwritten notes for revision are 10x more effective than re-reading.
At LakshyaMarch, every Biology class ends with an MCQ drill. We don't let students leave without testing the day's concepts.
